Flock is a freeware free browser that was active between April of 2005 and April of 2011. During those 8 years of active development, Flock managed to establish itself as one of the first browsers that was actively focused on providing users with fully integrated social networking and Web 2.0 features and services in its interface. What this means is that instead of forcing users to manually customize their browser via plugins and extensions, Flock directly integrated numerous new services into its client. This enabled both novices and professionals to effortlessly experience all the best things that internet has to offer without wasted time on manual browser configuration.
The newly added plugins included easier access to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Yahooo Mail, Blogger, MySpace, Flickr, and many more, with sharing of pages, images and videos being integrated directly into your core browsing experience. But the additions did not stop there. Flock has full support for downloading, managing and reading news feeds (all three popular varieties – RSS, Media RSS and Atom), powerful section “Media Bar” for previewing online multimedia content, integrated blog management dashboard section for controlling your blog, web-mail client that supports dragging and dropping of images or videos into your emails, third party plugin support and more.
During its history, Flock went through several distinctive pages. Its early versions were based on Gecko HTML rendering engine, which was quickly changed to Mozilla Firefox engine, and finally in final year of its life was moved to WebKit Chromium.
